I have a problem with a Compaq presario r3000 laptop. I shall explain exactly from start to finish what happened. My Sister in law has been experiencing slow performance(word processing,music,photo's) on her laptop for approx 6 months, I said that I would try and adjust a few things to try and help...startup configuration, disk defragmentation etc. The first problem was the comp did not respond when i tried to run msconfig,i then ran disk cleanup,this took a while to make any progress. Whilst that was running I ran lavasoft adaware. The computer then restarted itself without completing either the disk clean or adaware scan and I was presented with a screen that gave me the option of running xp in safe mode or continuing with the last good configuration amongst others. Whatever option I choose the comp will not start XP,it gets to a certain stage and then restarts again.

try rebooting and tap the f8 key as you reboot. then select last good configuration. if this doesn't work try rebooting and tap f8 .. then try safemode ... go to programs ... accessories .. systemtools .. system restore .. try going back to a time it worked ok. if this won't work post back again.

Yeah, I'm having the exact same problem as you and mine won't even get far enough to run the recovery disks. Mine is a toshiba satellite.
