hi, i recently got a laptop when i use it for an hour of so it gets really hot on my lap... i was wondering if there was any program other than asus probe that i could use to control the fan speed, because the fan in side it speeds up every 15 - 20 min.. then slows down.. i want to keep it going at a constant rate (i don't care about battery life) i just don't want the thing heating up on my lap.. i have tried installing asus probe, but i get errors...

Laptops do get hot and their fans do speed up and down.

Put something between your lap and your laptop... No suggestions as to what.

But seriously, be sure if you do that there is enough circulation under the machine.

Hi Karm
The term Laptop is, of course, a complete misnomer, don't ever put it on your lap.
As Salgolf says keep at least 5mm between the laptop and a surface.
I run a laptop all day long and they do get hot just remember not to obstruct the fans beneath.

I saw a neat little product for a Laptop at a recent computer show. It was a "table" (without legs) about the same size as the laptop and it had four built in fans that dissipated the heat. it's made to set in you lap and the laptop sits on it.

Don't know who makes it, but I'm sure a Google or Ebay search will turn it up.

When at home or travelling I use a tray with a beanbag base, you know the type I mean. I give a level base for the laptop, and a mouldable platform for my lap.

At the office I have the laptop on a monitor raiser so the sreen is more or less eye level. With a full size keyboard & mouse.

Anyone who doesn't invest in at least a regular keyboard and mouse when working with a laptop is nuts!
