Hi, I recently purchased this laptop brand new from Staples. Hp Pavilion ze5600. The fans turn on but shut off once windows boots up. In windows it doesnt matter whether I'm using programs or not, after 5minutes the fans will kick in for 1-2minutes. Then in another 5minutes they will kick in for 1-2minutes. Shut off. On, off, on, off, on, off. I could be completely idle and this will still happen. I work in an office and this bothers me greatly. My friend has the same problem with his Toshiba and Toshiba has a program out there to fix this.
I understand that this is a featurethat kicks in when the cpu warms up. But my cpu appears to be cool during this whole time, and the laptop itself is no wear near hot. There has to be some option that I can change so that it doesnt kick in like this, so it just stays on indefinitely. Maybe some area where I can change the sensor cpu temp of where it kicks in? If there is ANYTHING at all that can be done about this i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Give this a try :-

If it works on your HP it can slow down the CPU = less speed = less heat = less fan ON time.
OK you'll take a hit on performance but in all honesty, unless you're doing intensive graphic work or playing games (yuk !) you'll probably never notice the difference.

siva, where are the options so i can change the fan properties and allow it to stay on or off completely. i looked in the power settings in control panel and there was nothing on the fan? there has to be something i can do.
i noticed that toshiba has a fan program and has the same problem. does anyone else notice this problem with their hp laptop? are they any things i can change or programs i can use for an hp laptop?
if all else fails i will download that program to slow down the cpu, which i really dont wanna do.

For what it's worth, add me to the list of disgruntled fan people. I have an HP Pavillion 5375 and detest the fan. It is WAY too loud, and it's on/off time seems to have no coorelation to the temperature. Very annoying, to the point of bagging the whole laptop if I can't find a solution. You can't just replace the fan with a quieter one because it is a whole sealed unit with heat sheilds fans and sensors built in. Grrr. If anyone has any ideas for a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.
