OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU/Ram: 1 G
Product: Fujitsu siemens / S series
Subcategory: Hardware Problems
Comment:

When I press power button my laptop does not show even the first boot screen, only the fan starts running and the display shows power icon (zig-zag in circle) and battery status.
Sometimes if I keep some random key(s) pressd while pressing power button then it boots (1 in 10 or 20 times) but hang while loading mup.dll (even in safe mode)

Please help me sort out his problem

Thanks for your help in advance

... power/resume/suspend button maybe disabled in the bios

... @ boot-up pressing [ESC] [F2] does nothing ??

... the CMOS battery may need changing 3-5 year lifespan

... you should be able to enter the bios

Nothing happens if I press ESC/F2 @ boot time
But when this problem started sometimes pressing ESC/F2 at boot time worked.

... if bios password is set and you do'nt know it you wo'nt even be able to access the HARD DRIVE!!

... OH DEAR!

http://www.fixya.com/support/p34128...

... and I do'nt think you will be able to stick in another hard drive because of bios security.

... battery needed changing anyway.

... when you turn it on tap F2 key see if you can enter bios!

"...I remember I did activate hibernation..."

... I am a bit concerned about above statement!!

... just turning off the power whilst performing hibernation can result in the system just hanging; but there is a way out of this.

... although the symtoms differ in this case!

... do you have xp cd?

I do have a xp cd.

By "...I remember I did activate hibernation..." I mean the problem started a day or two after I activated hibernation on windows. On the day I left my laptop in standby overnight and in morning laptop started having this problem, and it kept on worsening.

You said "there is a way out"
What is that way? I can give it a try too if you tink I should.

... does the laptop have a floppy drive?

"...On the day I left my laptop in standby overnight and in morning laptop started having this problem..."

... thanks for throwing in more light... better late than "never".

... since replacing the cmos battery can you now enter the bios?

"...What is that way? I can give it a try..."

... if you "can" enter the bios then there is a way, if you "ca'nt" enter the bios I suspect that it is "locked"

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/b...

... if it is locked it might be a security issue !!
