laptop display is dim, no backlight

September 28, 2009 at 19:28:45
Specs: Windows Vista
I bought this off ebay like this. The drive was wiped so I had to reinstall WinXP The only way I can see it is by shining a flashlight against the screen or hooking up my desktop's lcd screen to it. None of the function keys work so I can't try to increase the brightness that way. Anyone know a backdoor way to increase the brightness?

Sounds like you may have gotten a bum deal. Windows uses the default brightness settings when it installs, so unless there is a hardware setting in the BIOS, you probably need to replace the display.

I'm probably going to try and buy and install the CCFL light rather than the replace the whole screen. About $10 for that compared to about $90 for the whole screen. I got it for $50 and I can resell it for 3 times that once it's fixed
