My laptop (Compaq 17XL 569) refuses to start.
There is no screen (blank), therefore no bios messages appear... there are no sounds..
there is no booting of either HD or floppy drives...all though i can hear the HD starting up and spinning, thats as far as it goes... All this happened one day, with no forwarning.... anti-virus was upto date, along with windows xp security updates...

The hard is ok...it has been checked.. however i switched it on today (the laptop) and now i get a white screen only.. no messages or sounds, and the laptop automatically shuts down after 10 secs... help anyone.... is it my mobo, processor.. or an advanced virus etc.... HELP.....

You def have a hardware fault, but all u could do is try replacing the RAM or hard drive which costs money - only a specialist laptop repairer would be able to take it apart and diagnose the prob :(

i saw a similar problem with an older style Compaq laptop. I didn't get anything, i'm not even sure if i got the Compaq splash screen. i pulled the cmos batter and kept it out for a few minutes, put it back in and was able to get it to boot. If this doesn't work, hit a few times with a bat.. maybe it just needs a spanking.

If your BIOS does not even load, everything else is secondary,do you get any beeps with the ram in there with the ram out when you start it up?

Re: laptop is dead....

I like a sense of humor regarding the taking a bat to it or putting it out to pasture....

no but seriously, in reply to my problem to (sabertooth).. i don't get any beeps with RAM in or out...

not tried to pull out the cmos battery (G), if the battery came lose or went dead...would this stop the whole laptop from working??

I appreciate the help guys, thanks
william

CMOS Battery on the system board provides power to retain the configuration, date, and time information when the computer is turned off.If you get no beep code matrix at all with or without memory chips,I'd recommend getting a new CMOS battery, get new memory (Crucial) or if you have a friend with another laptop then borrow his memory chip and test it in yours.I'd leave it without the battery and ram for at least 24hrs and if it fails.Don't even bother sending it in for service,I know you can get a replacement mainboard for $500.DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!!!!GET A NEWER LAPTOP FOR A LITTLE MORE.
