How does my laptop access the internet with only a PC/modem to interface with? Does the modem provide the connectivity or does the PC? I do not use a wireless router but my laptop gets on-line via my PC's DSL connection link. How does it do it?

Your PC can share it's internet connection, it's called Internet Connection Sharing or ICS. Connectivity to the internet is with the DSL modem. The PC is acting as the host, as a proxy.

How do you connect your laptop to your PC? Are you using a network cable?

Danj - thanx for the info. That explains it. I have to apologize because the person I was posting for did not realize that they had a wireless router attached to their PC. So the laptop was talking to the router. But the info about ICS was very helpful.
