Comment:

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a standard 2 port KVM switch with a wireless mouse and keyboard? I am using one successfully but the mouse has to be within 6 inches of the receiver box which kinda negates the whole reason for having a wireless one, seeing as a wire is about 3 ft long anyway. It is Belkin, which I know causes problems but is there a brand or person that uses this configuaration successfully please? I would really appreciate any ideas as this is very irritating, plus it is sometimes difficult to get the mouse to register at start up.

Many thanks

Sorry if this is not exactly an answer to your question but it may give you some food for thought.

Take a look at Multiplicity:

http://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/

This is effectively a software KM switch which I use to control 2 PC's and a laptop. It does however require the machines to be networked, either P2P or via a router/switch, and each to have it's own screen.

You simply run the mouse off the edge of the control PC's screen and assumes control of the other machine.

IMHO, if you have 2 or 3 machines in the same locality then this little app is one which definately falls into the simple, brilliant & must have category !

Unfortunately wireless keyboads and mice are not really intended to span great distances (you generally still need to see the screen after all!) but using Multiplicity and Creative wireless Keyboard/Mouse (Desktop 6000) I can work reasonably reliably up to about 3m away.

Don't forget that these devices very often operate on similar frequencies to things like cordless phones etc. so if you are experiencing extremely poor range make sure you have no other potentially interfering device nearby. This includes TV's.
