Every two weeks over the past three months I go over to my sister-in-laws
to run ad-aware se,spybot, ewido, spywareBlaster and ccleaner and check on microsoft updates, also avast! AV and zonealarm free FW.
Two weeks ago I installed " K9 Web protection" to keep the two 15 year old twins out of sites not suitable for them. When I returned today I noticed the boys reloaded the original gateway CD's that came with their PC which reloaded XP Sp1 and all original software on the computer because they wanted "k9 web protection "off their computer. So all my work over the last 3 months is out the window.
They have a one parent mother and the only punishment she gave them was to stay off the PC for one month.

I believe if I was in your shoes my knowledge would decrease real quick. In other words if the parent cannot take the time to make and effort to address the situation and you have to fix the mess the kids make, than I would be saying you know they got it fouled up pretty good this time and it is beyond my expertise to fix it sorry.
I have done that a few times. I figure if they pay 55-75 bucks and hour to have to get it fixed they most likely pull the plug on the kiddies.

I know of a parent who used scissors on the modem line. That fixed it good.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

I used to do that for all my friends and thier kids, so I can relate. Now, when asked what could be the problem, I use the three wisest words a person can udder. " I don't know." Or like JohnT says, give them a bill for $75 and it will stop real quick. If it continues, don't make it your problem. I always say, my computer works fine :))))
Keep Smiling
It makes them think you're up to something...

Update it one more time for them, then...
1. Take the restore CD's and lock them up.
2. Give them only limited user accounts so they can't install anything.
3. If the BIOS allows it make sure they can only boot from the hard drive and assign it a password so they can't change it.Your a good uncle.

DanJ your solution is a solid answer, and if they get around those suggestions than it is time for LOM (lack of memory) when they need help to fix it.

Dan or John or anyone wanting to reply-
I do not know the steps
to change BIOS to boot from hard drive,
and I do not know how to setup a password.Could you some detail information
Thanks again,
Mike

See below site for setting bios password on a gateway. To get into bios you will press either f1 or f2 based upon the model that you are working on. You can always got to Gateway support site for which is the correct key to select.
http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/INTEL/m00061/M0006126.shtml
To access the Gateway 2000 Setup (BIOS) utility:

If you reinstall XP, when it asks for an administrators password be sure to assign it one that you will remember. Then make yourself a "computer administrator" account - with a password on it so that you can maintain the system without logging in as administrator.
To create a user account:
Start - Control Panel - User Accounts - "Create new account"Give the account a name. Then it will ask you to "Pick an account type"
"Computer administrator" can do system wide changes, program installs, etc.
"Limited" limits them to their own files, but they may not always be able to install programs.
Actually, if you really want to lock it down enable the "guest" account. Then the twins won't be able to install new software but they will be able to use software already installed.
To do this, go to User accounts, change an account, select the "guest" account and enable it.
The twins won't know what hit them.
