I have just recently acquired an refurbished Dell Desktop pc. It is configured with Windows XP. I have found that the Keyboard will type in French characters. I have checked a little bit in the Control Panel under the Keyboard selection, but everything appears to be fine. Is it possible that the Windows install was set up to French, or is it possibly a Windows update that is causing this. It does not appear to have affected the entire keyboard, but many of the keys. Please provide any suggestions. Thanks.

this problem is nearly always a setting in the regional and languages section (in the control panel)
first, go to the regional options tab and ensure the correct language/dialect and country have been selected.
next, click advancd and select the correct language there.
lastly, click on Languages and then Details. make sure the correct Default input language has been selected. Also, under Installed services, check that your language/dialect is the default one, and delete all others.
does this help, or is this what you already tried? note, you might need to reboot it before the changes take place. if this doesnt work, just use the recovery CDs to reinstall all the software
