i'm trying to fix my sister's computer. she fell pray to the jdbgmgr.exe virus hoax and mistakenly deleted the file. afterwards the keyboard has been acting up - specifically, one of these letters {n,i,o} keep on repeatedly being pressed automatically. other keys like {c,t, tab, enter,...} and many others do not work at all. i've done some reading on the jdbgmgr.exe hoax and i've so far not read anything about the hoax virus affecting the functionality of the keyboard. but nevertheless, this is my situation and it all started after deleting jdbgmgr.exe...
i tried re-installing the os and reformatting the hd but i couldn't get the computer to boot from the cd since i have to press the C key to do so during startup - but this key does not work. i then tried to install/update using the winxp setup program and it got thru the beginning stages of installation (this was tricky enough, since many keys didn't work, i had to enter the product key code using a series of copy-paste steps!), but it then needed to re-boot. now, during the boot up sequence, it prompts me to choose which os to start: the original version of winxp, and the new xp setup, but since the enter key doesn't work (neither do the directional arrows) i cannot make the selection. also, there's is no count-down timer to make the selection, so the computer is forever stuck at this screen.the next thing i'm going to try is to plug in a keyboard on the usb port - i didn't do this yet because i don't have a usb keyboard and i first need to get a ps2 to usb connector. but i'm afraid that since the os will not have been loaded yet, drivers for the usb ports won't be engaged. the only good sign is that the red light on the usb mouse is lit, so maybe the keyboard will work.
but in the meantime, any suggestions? replies by email would be nice. thank you :)
other info:
- it is a toshiba satellite laptop
- the mouse seems to work fine (back when the os actually loaded)

Do you have a boot disk to get into DOS?
Maybe you can just change the defualt boot choice in the boot.ini file.
It would be a little tricky though.
