When i come to th login on my pc, my keyboard fails to work. My mouse works at that stage, but when i hit the keyboard, the mouse locks up. I cant therefore log on to proceed further to resolve matter. I have started in safe mode, still same problem. Changed keys and mouse, still no joy. What is problem. Can i bypass login without entering password? Thanks Keen PC enthusiast

My first thought is a driver problem. Executing Last Known Good Configuration in Safe Mode would solve driver issues, but you need working up/down keys (plus Enter) to make that selection--which you don't have. My suggestion is to reboot with your XP CD in the tray and go to Repair.

Tried above - still no joy. As soon as i come to enter reg key, both mouse and keyboard locks up. I cant proceed with download. I am at wits end with this problem. Try swapping the keyboard and mouse when you plug them into the back of the computer. If they are USB devices, try using only one. If it works, then your power supply may be going bad. If they are PS2's, putting them in the wrong place and then booting, and then shutting down and putting them in the right places will sometimes unlock a frozen IRQ in the bios.
