I fixed this problem my removing my HP multimedia keyboard and replacing it with an old keyboard that does not have the 'extra keys'. After replacing the keyboard I reinstalled Windows XP (over itself) standby and shutdown now work fine.

i had the same problem and resolved it by installing new Windows XP drivers for both the keyboard *and* mouse.

I use a Logitech internet keyboard (model Y-SE8) and a Logitech Trackman Marble FX. My guess is there was some incompatibility between whatever Logitech drivers I already had on this machine with Windows ME.

I was baffled that upgrading the keyboard driver didn't fix the problem. But I noticed in the Event Viewer that Windows complained about a Logitech mouse driver. Upgrading the mouse driver also fixed the problem. Perhaps there was some interaction between the two because they use the same type of port.

Moral of the story: if you get a blue-screen device driver error, check your Event Viewer.

Hey guys!
I had the same problem and after having read this page I could fix it doing the following:
I had Win XP installed and I use a Logitech Wheel Mouse - I though I should also install the Logitech Software which was delivered on a CD, and then the problem occured.
Now I de-installed the software and also removed all commonly shared files - I restarted the computer - and then all worked fine!
Good luck for all who face similar problems!

Ok. Heres what i did. I have a Logitech Wheel Mouse, and its installation in XP causes the kbdclass.sys - Address FC78B945 base at FC78B00, Datestamp 3btd82f3 error. So I uninstalled the MouseWare software (the stuff that u install from the cd) and deleted kbdclass.sys from the windows\system32 directory, and boom! shutdown, hybernate and restart work fine!

Good luck!

You Suckers are so keen to migrate to Windows XP. I does not take a genius to know that driver for various periferals are not going to be available for some time yet.
I suppose the world needs pioneers - thanks to you all
