Comment:
I installed SP3 at least a year ago on my Windows XP Pro. Recently, I modified the system to ask to install updates instead of doing so automatically.
Since then, I get requests to install SP2 update KB954430 repetitively. I installed it at shut-down a few times anyway. Why would it need to be installed at all, if I have SP3 installed already?

That number, 954430, is NOT listed in this which includes SP2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946... List of fixes that are included in Windows XP Service Pack 3
Another thought is --- Do a Windows Search, for 'All files and Folders', for 954430 That may result in that being in one of the Uninstall folders in C:\windows
You can find the Update here --- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954430 MS08-069: Description of the security update for XML Core Services 4.0: November 11, 2008
