i have a ECS K7SEM which is running with 1bg of sdram, athlonxp 2000+ and western digital 120gb, and a XFX geforce 4 ti 4200. however, most of the time when the computer is on, the machine hjust restarts. it gets enoying, coz work is lost. it also takes a long time before i can actually do any work, as the system 'recovers from serious errors'
is this because of my graphics card or is there more to this??

Ok. Start pulling the machine apart.
Start w/ the basic stuff you need. Known good working items. Hd, vid :) and 1 stick of ram.
trouble shooting takes time. Find out if those simple items work ok. then start adding parts back in, and testing them. start up, try, works, ok!
If all the hardware *make sure seated properly in the slots !!!* is ok, then start working w/ the os.
does this happen in Safe Mode?
run that..
When does it happen? what r u doing when it does?it may be possible there are corrupted files in the os..the stuff you and I cant fix.
after the hardware testing, if the os still fubar's, you may have to *repair* the os.
Stick the cd in the drive, start up, and select REPAIR.Good luck
Michelle

Thought you might like to know i am haveing many serious problems after instaling a geforce 4 ti 4200 128 DDR. it shuts down the machine for two reaseons. 1. lack of power you must be useing a 250 wat power supply (I can make it go as long as i unplug all my usb bits). 2 the driver/hardware is causeing an infinate loop (Though this is more of a blue screen thing). This could be, A. bad hardware or (and hopefully) B. an out of date bios or out of date chipset drivers (and if you have not tryed it allready out of date AGP drivers). I'm currently trying to work out how to flash the bios as the ECS bios flash manaul is for win2k which is not workin well on XP! Joy, the fun just never ends. I'll post again when i fix it.
Vodka.
