Does anyone know why when I send a jpg to people it arrives as a .dat file instead of an image?
If you try opening it in IE, it's all just text.
Thanks

They can just change the extension from .dat to .jpg.

I suspect that these are AOL people, but maybe not.

Sorry, I do not check for private messages

How are you sending the file? Email? If so, what program are you using, and what email program(s) are the recipients using?

hey raincheck,

this is a common problem with outlook express when it is set to set emails in the "rich text format"

There is alot more information on the follow site, including how to turn off rich text and thus fix the problem:

http://web.archive.org/web/20050330035630/http://www.pchell.com/support/winmaildat.shtml

If you still want to be able to set rich text emails without this problem, I suggest ditching outlook express in favour of another free email client such as mozilla thunderbird.
