Hi everybody. SO this is my problem. I just got a new computer so i stopped using my old computer for anything but business. Suddenly my computer stops going at its previous speed. So I take through spybot, ad aware, norton, housecall, and a bunch other things but it is still slow and each scan shows few if any malware. Internet is slow and all programs are slow. I went on msconfig and i disabled all start-up stuff and some un-needed services but computer is still slow. I am only running 19 processes. I also tried to fix the problem my adding more ram to make it 512 MB but to no avail. PLZ HELP ME. I AM OUT OF IDEAS.

Corrupt drivers? Norton, Zonealarm? Somthing must be hogging resources.
Avast is best i say when it comes to low resource antivirus.
Maybe a past virus or spyware has eaten away at windows, so backing up and doing a fresh install should help. Also, check all your connections are ok inside your computer AFTER PULLING THE PLUG.
Is your registry clogged?
I can only give you limited help with what you have told me. Can you tell us anything else? maybe a hijackthis log?
Good luck,
Shadow

I just reformatted the computer 2.5 months ago and i am running 19 processes at 102MB.

yeah it started working after i did a disk defragment. I found out that other people had been downloading, installing, then deleting programs from my computer.

all the above advice is great...
Also
download the free and excellent RegSupreme
http://www.macecraft.com/regsupreme/
Clean up corrupt registry settings.
Then, try to further analyze what is going on:
RUN> Perfmon
Add counters to diagnose the problem. For instance:
Memory > pages input per second
...tells you if too many things are loading at startup and thus loading into virtual memory rather than RAM.
Also disk queue length consistently above 5 tells you your hard drive is failing or is overtaxed by virtual memory requirements.
post back with details....
