Hello all! I didn't find a fix for my problem in past postings, so here goes...
I downloaded Spybot S&D and Browser Hijack Blaster 2 days ago because my homepage kept changing in IE6. That problem is now cured. I've since discovered that I cannot open some links that are javascript popups. I "recovered" everything from Spybot S&D but no luck. I've tried every suggested adjustment to settings but still no luck. I am not running any other popup blocker (to my knowledge). Any suggestions? Thank you!!

sangman, Open IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security tab and set the Internet zone to Default Level, click Apply, click OK.

Hello Tufenuf! Yup, I tried that before, tried it just now, no help. (Default happens to be "Medium.") I did not restart my computer this time, although I may have previously.
Here's why I would like it to work: go to www.bestbuy.com/ and at the bottom of the page, click on "Weekly Ad" under "Store Services." Up until two days ago, I would get a new window...now, that window appears momentarily and then disappears. Thanks!

sangman, I can get right to that pop-up page (Weekly Add) by clicking it. I'm using Windows XP SP1 & IE 6 SP1. Do you have some type of pop-up stopper or maybe a Firewall that could be blocking it?
Tufenuf

Yessir, I believe I added both SP1 updates. To my knowledge, I do not have any pop-up stopper; I am connected to the net via a DSL router. But I have not made any changes other than that Spybot S&D and BHB that I mentioned...before those, I also went directly into that Weekly Ad window...whaddya think?

sangmna, I've never used Browser Hijack Blaster but could there be a setting in that program that may be causing this? Also in Spybot Search & Destroy follow the istructions below if it's applicable to the way you have it set up.
Please start Spybot-S&D again in advanced mode (usually from the Start menu group Spybot - Search &D Destroy, until you've already changed the desktop icon to advanced mode), and go to the Immunize page.
There you'll see a group Recommended miscellaneous options. Untick the checkboxes in front of both Lock IE... options. You may need to close all Explorer windows, and maybe even restart Windows before these changes take place.Hint: this lock function has been added mostly for multi-user environments where you wouldn't want other users of your computer to change your IE settings. If you are the only user of your computer, there's no real need to enable them.

BHB is simple and works well. It does not have any user-adjuatable settings of which I am aware -- it's either on of off.
Earlier today, I tried starting Spybot S&D in Advanced Mode, went to the Immunize page, and saw that both boxes were already unticked...
I really appreciate your patience and effort!

having a similar problem with second windows not opening up. i've tried reinstalling my browser; SBC Yahoo DSL, reducing the # of programs i have running in the task bar because someone at the SBC Yahoo support desk said that was causing my problem, stopping my pop-up blocker but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated !!

sangman, I'm running out of ideas but go to the link below and see if your Browser is JavaScript & Java Applet enabled.
If it doesn't pass both tests open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab, scroll down to "Microsoft VM" and put a checkmark in front of "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (require restart)" then restart your computer.

Due to legal issues ie; Microsoft vs Sun, Java is no longer supported by Microsoft. You can obtain a free java download from Sun Microsystems.

Hey Tuf! Yup, tried the Java test yesterday and I passed both tests...
Thanks Clark for your info...mistwraith, I know how you feel.
I'll keep working on it and if I find anything of significance, I'll follow up. Thanks again to all!

Well, after visiting countless websites, forums, knowledge bases, etc., I found the cause for my problem...by accident!!! Although my set of circumstances may be unique, I'll post my discovery in case it can be of use to anyone else out there.
I had downloaded "IE New Window Maximizer" and used it successfully for over two months. (This is freeware available from www.jiisoft.com which automatically maximizes new windows as they're opened. I found this from earlier posts in Computing.net.) I did not consider this program when I searched my computer for any pop-up blockers as it's supposed to MAXIMIZE new windows, not close them.
Well, by right-clicking the IE New Window Maximizer icon (which is in the system tray) and hovering the curser over "Popup Action," I found that the "Close all" option was checked. Clicking the "Do not maximize" option now allows new links to open.
Although this fixed my problem, I cannot explain why I only recently started experiencing this problem, as I had not made any changes to this setting since I started using it over two months ago! Anyway, I hope this helps someone else out there.
