Java not enabled

Specs: Win XP Home, 2.80 Ghz/1.18GB of RAM
Please help my browser is not dislaying pages properly because it says java not enabled then I just shut down brwser and start up again and everything is fine. I don't know whats wrong I am running bt/yahoo browser version Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180

It was because occasionally, Java failed to load. Refresh will fix it most of the time. Time to upgrade to IE 7

I have already clicked on help tab on browser and it says browser is up to date. Is there another way I could update.
