Okay, this is going to be easy for some of you XP experts out there. I have always been a fan of Yahoo maps as I need to search a lot of addresses and then get a map and then drive to that address. I always like the function on yahoo maps where you can zoom in or out of the map or recenter the map or just keep clicking and "drive" the route to your destination. Now all of a sudden I click to move or zoom in or out and - nothing. The map stays the same. What has been changed on my computer? Is this a java VM setting? Active X or what? What do I need to do? The yahoo maps functions work perfectly on my other computer.

Thanks again in advance,

Jimi.

To determine if you are running the Microsoft VM(Java), follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, type jview and then press ENTER.

If you are not running the Microsoft VM, you receive the following error message:
'jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
------------------
At Yahoo maps, I do not know what you need.

Jimi, If you don not have the SP1 update you don't have the Microsoft Virtual Machine.
Windows XP-doesn't come with the MVM
Windows XP SP1-does have the MVM
Windows XP SP1a-Removes the MVM

Post back and let us know and there's a site you can download it at.

Chuck,

I guess I'm running it then because what you described does not come up. What comes up is the version - (5.1.2600), copyright, the location in my computer of the vm, usage, options, classname, arguements, and etc. So I guess it's okay.

Maybe I have something set wrong in yahoo maps.

Thanks Chuck,

Jimi.

Jimi, If you go to run and type in cmd click OK, then type in jview and press your Enter key it should show either 5.00.3805 or 5.00.3810. You're showing 5.1.2600 which isn't any version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine. Try it again and post back.

Jimi: Tufenuf is right. You did not use the Command Prompt correctly. Let me put it another way:

To determine if you are running the Microsoft VM(Java), follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, type:

jview

and then press ENTER.

If you are not running the Microsoft VM, you receive the following error message:
'jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file.

Jimi, If you don't have the MVM go to the link below and download version 5.00.3805, install it, then restart your computer for the installation to complete. You can then update it to version 5.00.3810 which is the latest version. If your Windows XP doesn't have the MVM you must follow the instructions above as version 5.00.3810 won't install without first having the 5.00.3805 installed.

Microsoft Virtual Machine

After it's installed open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab, scroll down to Microsoft VM and put a checkmark in front of "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled(requires restart)" and restart your computer. You should now be good to go.

Tufenuf,
Oops, I'm an idiot.I was reading the first line which is the version of my Windows XP (version 5.1.2600). Below that is the Command-line Loader for Java verson 5.00.3810. Sorry. At least I know I have the latest verson.

The thing that makes me think I have something set wrong at yahoo is that the map zoom and pan functions work fine on my other computer and that computer has Win 98 on it.

My Win XP computer has some other funny little glitches that have been popping up lately. I'm thinking of doing a reformat & reinstall.

By the way, I have AdAware, Regcleaner, and Norton antivirus. Everything checks out.

Thanks for all the great posts and info. I learn more when I have a stubborn problem than I do when you guys fix the problem for me in nano seconds!

Jimi.
