Same here, it's a problem for a lot of people on this forum. Maybe something to do with IE, as most people seem to use alternative browsers here..........

Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

This has been happening with me for quite a while. Happens with both IE and Firefox. I did a clean re-install of XP home during this problem, and it made no difference. It seems to me Justin posted on this subject back at the same time ther problem with the search function came up (where opening a thread found on "search" then clicking close would not bring you back to the list of threads found by the search).

XP thread #97790 deals with the search problem, but I can't find the one dealing with problem stated by Marvin16v. In same time frame, though.

Hello,

I am using IE6 SP1 and I don't have the problem you are talking about. If anyone knows the reason why Computing.Net's HTML is making IE do that, e-mail me. I'll fix it. Until then, I have no clue.

FYI,

I hate to sound like a person at one of the typical tech support hotlines who says, "I don't know how to fix your problem, but here's a workaround," but I thought I'd let you know about this. I always right click on the links and do open in new window. I like it better that way since its easier to keep track of stuff. If you do that, you'll have no problem.

I realize this is no excuse for the problem, and I would be more than happy to fix the problem if I knew what it was. That's why I'm going to post this on the web development forum. Hopefully someone there will know more.

Do you all have the same problem when you refresh the page as well? I haven't been able to duplicate this behavior on win98 IE 6 SP1, or winxp same browser.

Try other sites with intellitxt...
silent pc review.

Does it do it on that page?

SN,

Good idea. If everyone with the error could try that other IntelliTXT site and let me know what happens, that would be great. Provided the problem is with intellitxt, I can fix it.

refreshing the page seems to cure it for one link. i went on the above site, main page loaded, said done in the bottom bar. the main page was empty except the adds at the top were loaded, i hit the refresh 7 times before the page displayed fully. then i had the same trouble to display any page from any link on the page. so i don't know if its doing the same as my original post, i'll try again later.

Hello everyone,

I'm running Win98 SE with IE 5.5 SP2 and I'm not experiencing the problem described above. Not at Computing.Net, not at forums.silentpcreview.com (loaded first time right).
When I click on the back button in IE I'm returned to where I was when I clicked on a thread to read. Same thing happens when I hit the [Backspace]key on my keyboard.

Also on a WinME box and a laptop running WinNT 4 WKS, everything functions as supposed to. When clicking on the Back button in IE or hitting the [Backspace]key on the keyboard I'm returned to where I was on the main page of the forums.

If I don't forget, and have a little spare time tomorrow during the office hours, I'll give it try on a Win2000 Pro box at the office.

Best Regards and Wishes,
The Count, Co-webmaster of mesich.com (22:12 hours)

Yes, 've recently been having this problem too. Sometimes it doesnt happen tho. When it does, it goes to the right place and then refreshes automatically!

I just noticed that when I click back from an open thread, the first thing I get is the Vonage ad, then the main page.

Hello,

To the people experiencing the problem: Please tell me whether or not clicking forward after the problem occurs with the back button will cause the same problem on the individual threads.

Thanks,
Justin

I use Mozilla Firefox and encounter the same problem.
It also happens in the site in response 10. I tried several posts at the bottom. After it happened I clicked the forward button and then back, and I was still brought to the top of the page.
Normally I use the metod Justin mentioned. Opening in another window, to never have to reload the page.

Nigel
