Specs: windows xp pro service pack 1, AMD K6 3D 383MB
hard drive not detected on pc bios is old its a AMD K6 451mhz. mainboard is a biostar M5ALC model is ALI M154 ALADDIN V V AGP CONTROLLER L2 CASHE 512 pipeline burst writeback running 383mb sd ram.
bios isaward software international 4.51 pg 16-7-1999

Quite likely it is a BIOS Limit, the only soultion is to purchase a Bootable PCI IDE Card..




Also a machine that old is not suitable for XP.

Exactly. That system is too old to support such a large HDD, plus you don't have enough RAM to run XP decently. To overcome the HDD problem, you'll either have to install an overlay program to trick the board into recognizing the entire capacity of the drive, or you'll have to install a PCI IDE controller card. There's nothing you can do about the RAM, 384MB is the max. You'd be better off running a modern version of Linux such as Puppy rather than a 10 yr old version of Windows.


BTW, the chipset is ALI M1541 ALADDIN V AGP, you forgot one digit.
