I have similar issues with XP and ME. I also have a 98SE that talks jsut fine to the ME machine. The only (almost) reliable solution I found was to make the XP the server and connect it to port 1 on the DLink. I connect the ME to one of the other ports. After several minutes of waiting it finally connects.
You may need to do a search on the XP for your ME computer. That sometimes helps.
Even when I do get them talking, transfers are VERY slow compared to connecting my ME to the 98SE machine. Progress??
