Issues with locked myself out of Local Group Policy

January 9, 2012 at 04:21:14
Specs: Windows XP

I am having issues with the Local Group Policy editor on my machine. I'm not using group policy through a server I am using gpedit on the computer itself.

The issue I am having is that originally I setup the restrictions to stop control panel access however I now need the access myself. I've gone into gpedit and told the restrictions to disable the control panel lockout but no luck.

I have tried loging on/off, restarting the computer and refreshing the policies by using gpupdate on command prompt. Nothing I have tried so far has been able to fix the problem, in effect I have managed to lock myself out of the control panel!

Please help!

Might have to use a bartsPE disk to edit what you need or do a restore point.

Dunno if you could boot to safe mode and try the local administrator account. Might work.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
