ya i just installed XP and about 2-5 minutes into operation the following message appeared. windows xp will now shutdown in 1 minute due to the following error \Isass.eex status code 10737741819. How do i stop it?

Congratulations, you have the "sasser" worm. Unless you didn't connect to the Net yet, then there is a problem with the Windows Legitimate "Isass" authorization program that grants "permissions".
Hopefully it's the worm, that's much easier to fix. Go to www.symantec.com and download the Sasser removal tool.
If not, post back and we'll work on the Isass problem.

but i can't do that because the computer automatically shuts down after like 2mins of operation. When i installed it i did it from boot up and i chose option 1 under the installtion. It said windows xp pro vdm vlk or something like that. maybe i should have gone with the XP pro retail option? IF this is the problem what should i do?

I'm sure your install was fine... the Sasser worm is very aggressive and can easily be on your machine within seconds of installing XP and connecting to the internet. You may even have gotten it during product activation.
Enable the XP firewall right away.
do this while offline:
control panel
network connections
right-click your internet connection
select properties
enable the firewallThis will keep Sasser from rebooting your machine. Then go to Windows Update and download all critical updates for your system. Then download the Sasser removal tool and run it. This should be the LAST step. Don't remove the worm until you have the firewall and critical updates installed.

Wrong Jim. Sasser, unlike Blaster, isn't stopped by the XP firewall.
Linkin, you're going to have to download the patch and removal tool from another computer, then go back to your computer and install both - patch first, removal tool second.
For both, go to download.microsoft.com and search for KB841720 and KB835732. Download the removal tool and security update. Then you'll be fine. Might want to make sure you have the Blaster patch as well. KB824146.
Good luck.

DJ,
You should really check your facts before you post. Misinformation like yours is why so many people continue to have problems with Sasser.
