I turn on my computer and after it shows the black screen with the Windows logo the screen goes black and there is a little window titled Isass.exe Bad Image that says The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system 32\DNSAP1.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette.

I click okay and it's just a black screen and won't get to my desk top.

I have tried booting in safe, last known good config, etc etc.. I am running a a Dell Dimension 9200. purchased 2006.

would be grateful for any help thanks

... have you tried "safe mode with command prompt" ?

... either select the above then type:

expand C:\WINDOWS\i386\DNSAPI.DL_ c:\windows\system32\DNSAPI.DLL
[press enter]

OR... boot up with XP CD to repair (r) console and type:

expand D:\i386\DNSAPI.DL_ C:\windows\system32\DNSAPI.DLL [press enter]

... D: might be a different CDROM drive letter

.
