Is this modem really old?

My brand-new laptop came with a modem. It is called: Agere Systems AC'97 Modem Is it really a 1997-era modem? I can't imagine a 2004 laptop using such an old modem. Thanks! =) -Andrew

If you follow the link above, you will find a description of your modem. It is brand new and V92 technology.

It's a standard that is being used by manufactors. You'll find it also covers sound and video for onboard systems. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...
