Is there a way to lock certain desktop icons so they can't be moved? The "lock web items" doesn't do it (I assume it only works on active desktop objects) and it's irritating when my icons get rearranged by windows on occasion.

Umm auto arrange just lines the icons up, it doesn't lock them in place so you can't change the order

All you need to do is check off "align to grid" under "Arrange Icons by" when you right click on the desktop.
