Generally speaking, it is somewhat safe to uninstall... but please note that particular programs, (such as certain functions in the Help and Support Center), and most Microsoft programs built to rely on .NET that are downloaded will not work. In the most severe of cases, uninstalling .NET Frameworks on a computer can cause programs already installed not to work or Windows Explorer problems--but this is not always the case.

However, to get directly to the answer, yes... if absolutely necessary, Windows can still continue to run if you uninstall .NET Framework 1.1.

NET Framework is a programmers tool, in other words, possibly a program you are running needs it.

Delete it & if when you run all your programs one tells you something is missing or needed, you will either have to reinstall or find another program that dos'nt use NET Framework.

If that happens, let us know the EXACT name of the program & what you want the program for, I'm sure there will be a Freeware one to replace it.

I should have further clarified that .NET is used mainly for Microsoft developers. Thanks for the assistance (clearing things up), JohnW. :) It is truly appreciated.
