Okay, i have been trying to fix this problem for about a month now but i just cant figure out whats wrong..

I have a fairly recent computer, and it works fine but a month ago my computer just wont boot up.

On the first screen where it starts booting Primary IDE device etc etc it just holds there. Sometimes it will recognise the hard-drives and get past that screen and go to the next. (but wont boot onto a OS because i formatted in FDISK thinking that it would work but it didnt)

I have tried different cables+hard-drives and its exactally the same. also my floppydrive reports the error when i try to bootup on a floppydisk: Disk I/O Error. I have tried different floppy drives and cables, same error.

Sometimes i can boot from floppy and do fdisk but it still messes up after i reboot.

I have tried using different CMOS batteries, i have tried every setting in BIOS.

Here is some errors that i have got:

Hard Disk Fail
no 80 Conductor cable installed

But i have tried different hard-disks so there cant be anythign wrong with the hard-disk and it is recognised in bios.

I hve tried different cables on IDE1 and IDE2, it wont work at all on IDE1 so i have to use IDE2. I have looked at the jumpers, they are fine.

The hard-disks are not damaged.

I can only think that my motherboard is just broken but it isnt old, i cant think why my computer is broken..

Abit kd7 Motherboard

Help will be appreciated!

Try this..

1. Do not plug anything in the Primary IDE Controller on the Mobo..(Leave vacant)

2. Plug and set one of the HDD's (80 Conductor cable) as the Master and any CDROM drive as Slave into the Secondary IDE Controller..

3. Make sure the HDD you try first is the one with OS on it. If Windows load @ boot, then try the same setup on the Primary controller and see what happens..

While working on the above get ur hands on a Harddrive Diagnostic Tool (WD)..it will not hurt to test both drives..Goodluck

You can post back for further help
