is it poss to install xp over itself

scandisk has gone missing on my pc so i was wondering is it possible to install xp over itself hoping that this will install scandisk again...will i have to activate xp again?????

Don't think it is in XP. Try chkdsk /R from a dos window.

I'm unsure if it's in XP either... seems to do stuff by itself when need be.
BUT - if you still want to, use the XP CD and boot to it. Once there, do the options for full install and such... after some choices you should get to "Repair installation of XP" Use that to "re-install", but if you use that, you may need to reinstall some programs...while other programs will still work.

you don't need to. scandisk is now chkdisk. open my computer, right click on your hdd, go to properties, then to tools, then error checking.
