Whats happening could be that the head in your floppy drive is off a little. This means that the drive can read and write fine when its in your drive but when you put it in a different drive with a good head it won't read.
To find out get a different disk and write a file (a simple text file should be enough) to it and then put it in another pc and see if it reads. If it doesn't your drive is going bad and needs to be replaced. Floppy drives are cheap though at no more the $20. This happened to me not to long ago but I was lucky and had a spare drive laying around.
