My PC has a DVD+-RW with dual layer capabilities ! My ? is if the software I have for burning CD's and DVD's is what decides if I can use this feature, with a DVD-R blank disk ? I have the OEM version of Roxio Creator Plus Dell Edition ver 2.0.4. ! I looked in the help within the application and a search for dual layer returned with no hits ? Any information or help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You ,Nick

A Device is a Device, a Driver, typically software, tells the device what it can and cannot do, within the limitations of what the Manufacturer enabled the device to do.

Since you provided no info on the device, use google to find out what software will enable your device to to perform to Manufacturer's intent.

You've been around CN too long for me to take this seriously. Took 5 seconds for 10+++ hits.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

The media has to be dual layer as well as the drive.

DVD-R blank disk certainly isn't dual layer discs. Don't you ever read Dell XPS owner manuals before asking us questions? If you did you would have known that you must have DVD+R DL discs to take advantage of the Dual Layer recording capabilities.

Nick, the answer to your question is no. As aegis said, if you want to burn dual layer, then you need a Dual Layer (8.5 Gig) DVD, and a Dual Layer burner.

That doesn't mean you can't burn regular CDs and DVD's as long as the drive is also a CD Burner.

I want to thank everyone who replied to my ? on dual layer burning ! This is my first expreience with DVD burning. I did have a CD-RW on my last PC . I went back into the help in the Easy CD Creator software package and in the index I found a listing on dual layer. As a couple of you stated its pretty straight forward as long as you have the proper type of disk it will automaticially give me a option to perform a dual layer burn . My DVD+-RW is a LG GSA-H21N and supports just about all formats! Well again I want to say thanks my ? is answered. I did google this however besides telling me about how dual layer works ,by haveing two layers of writtable space one one side,I could not find a direct answer to my ? on the software and if it supported dual layer burning. Somehow I missed it the first time I looked in the help within the software ?
Take Care ,Nick
