Ok,
Please help...let me summarize my problem and what I have taken to correct it. Gran a chair, I might be a few minutes.Bought new Dell4400 in January. Out of the box, was getting a irql less/equal to zero with stop 0x000000a. Here is the exact error message with parameters:
Error code 0000000a, parameter1 00000004, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 804ed849.It will happen intermittently, really only when I selected or made some action with the mouse. I never hooked up the printer, only the subwoofer and wireless mouse/keyboard receiver.
Here is what I tried to resolve it:
-Updated all drivers...mouse/keyboard/video card, sound card, etc.
-Updated NewBios
-Downloaded win debug, and debugged it about 1/2 way but got lost. I think it might have to do with IRQ11, but am not positive.
-spent about 10 hours on the phone with dell and got nowhere.
-they sent new harddrive...very bare with nothing installed (office, cd burning software, etc)....but system still crashes.
-sent new mouse, keyboard and receiver...still crashes.
-ran all troubleshooters through device manager, and it reports everything is working correctly.Ok, now I am pretty sure it is some type of driver/hardware conflict. I want to note two things:
1. When selecting control panel/system/hardward/sharing,conflicts- it says the drivers are not installed or are defective. (this is with the new mouse and me loading them manually...it also showed them on the old mouse, even with updated drivers).
2. When running win debug, I seem to remember it saying it was irq 11. My fax modem (loaded, which I dont use) and my network card share that irq...but I have an ethernet cable modem, so I dont even use the fax modem.
Any help would be extremely appreciated, particulary with debugging the stop code...the 2nd parameter and 4th parameter remain pretty constant. Thanks!
Patrick

I have that problem as well,
at least the irq less than or equal to zerohave a zoom 56k v9 modem
eitherlink nic card
and soundblaster sound
with a diamond viper II z200 agp
on my athelon 700I would be interested to see what the cause of this is,, or how to fix it.
Although I show no conflicts with irq in the system manager
I don't really have the skill to run windebug though.

this is usually an application or service error. it's not usually driver or hardware related. use the search box at the top, this has been asked numerous times.

Dan
I appreciate the feedback, but I disagree. Everything on Microsoft as well as other forums indicate it is a driver/hardware conflict. The message starts with
"irql less/equal to zero"
stop0x00000aPlease see above for details, but Microsoft website also says the 0x0000000a is a driver/hardware conflict.
Thanks.

Well, disable 'ACPI Controler' in System Device Manager/Computer to 'Standard PC'.
ACPI is made s---ty for some systems combinations and is leading to problems (including "irq not less or equal" issue).
In return you'll loose the ability of turning off power upon shutdown, but me, i cand live with that...

I had the same problem on my PC when I installed WinXP(this is caused by NT based operating systems) but found out the way to resolve it by myself. What you have to do is look at the properties for the drivers of the devices attached to the PCI slots or AGP slot of the computer. There, you will see device type, manufacturer and location. Here, the location is crucial. It will say something like PCI Slot 5 (PCI bus 2, device 3, function 0) for example. Look at the device number for each device (3 in this example) and comfirm that each number is different for all the cards connected. If any one of them is the same, plug that card out and change the PCI slot it is using. Do this until all device numbers are different. You will most likely solve the problem this way although if you have too many cards connected, you may end up getting conflicts whatever you do. Still, it is worth a shot since I managed to get it done twice on different PCs. You can mail me if you want about this... Bye...

I'm having the same problem, everytime I boot my pc on the white loading bar it says, "a system file that is required to boot is corrupt, please use the recovery console to resolve". Not very helpfull,so i dragged my humble old 686 out of the bedroom and got it on the internet. I got onto the Microsoft site and found an article which "supposedly" will resolve the problem, so I printed that off. This "problem solver" is about 30-40 lines of prompt, when I come to type it in after two lines it comes up with a blue error, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, so, I restarted, tried several times, still coming up, went back onto Microsoft site, "its a hardware problem", try removing anything not required to boot the pc, so I took out my LAN card, and all the extra RAM I added, I also unplugged my CD-RW, this did not resolve the problem, now I am stuck, I don't want to phone Microsoft as that is very expensive, and I had to save all my pennies to buy the god damn OS, why should I have to pay even more just for support?
HELP!

I had the same problem with Windows 2000.
The problem professed itself most frequently when doing some network activity, like sending e-mail or when using PC Anywhere.
I switched the position of my network card and it now appears to be gone.
Conclusion: move your PCI cards around, take some out and add them until the system appears stable, as a previous posting recommends.

Ive had this error on 2 PCs now, one is running Win2k and the other is a WinXP system. Both had Creative Labs Geforce3 graphics cards, ive tried numerous things to stop this, changed ram, graphics cards, swapped boards around the PCI slots, all to no avail. I tested the systems by playing a DVD movie, which usually caused the error to come up on the screen within approximately 15 minutes. As a final test i stripped out everything apart from the bare essentials, so only card left in the machine was the graphics card, and the drivers for other devices uninstalled. Set the dvd movie running, and almost like clockwork the IRQL blue screen flashed up. This being the last straw, i formatted/reinstalled win2k on the one system....and lo and behold, the same damn error cropped up (still running on the bare system, and tested on various types of graphics cards) So, god only knows what the problem with this PC is, i've since formatted and regressed back to windows 98 (grudgingly) and have had no problems since (other than the usual problems associated with win98).
I wish you all good luck with this most frustrating problem.

I'm getting this error in the middle of installation of WinXP. I've never had it before, but I just got a brand new Abit motherboard. My computer worked for a while without the error, but as soon as I reformatted and it started copying the setup files to my HD, i got the IRQL_LESS_THAN error. This is absolute hell... I hope it's resolved soon.

Dylan, Look at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q314063
Have you tried all the instructions there for disabling various things before installing?
Also, if you have more than one memory stick installed, try with just one of them! I was getting bizarre errors with 2x256MB DDR installed, but with one all was OK! I have an Abit SD7-533.

Hi, I had this error, damn annoying it was too. It came down to it being Norton Personal Firewall causing the "IRQL Less/equal to zero" error. If you are running NPF or NIS - run live update a few time (past v2.5). Or just use another firewall.....
good luck
