Thanks for the help. I did try to update the vid drivers with the "detonator3" drivers for xp. the next time it crashed, I got into xp and it said "windows recovered from a serious error" and when I looked into it a further, it gave me some sort of TCPIP error. that's great but I had no network card installed. Maybe next time microsoft decides to roll out "the newest and greatest user friendly OS" they'll make sure it works right . Is there any way to manage my IRQ's through XP? or is that managed strictly by the OS? Also, I've heard that even after you "uninstall" any driver from XP it remains in your registry unless you remove it. I also know that XP assigns the drivers differently than NT or 98 does. Any ideas on how to remove the driver from the registry?

Hi,
ive not followed the previous messages to this but the only time ive seen this error msg (twice) it was caused by faulty ram!Keith.

Sadly, it seems to be a "catch all" error - I had it when changing CDs, for example.
Others have had it when opening web pages.
The error is described on the Microsoft Knowledge Base but for Windows NT - and the solution was to delete your swap file, scandisk the drive it is on, and re-create it again.
This did not work for me (I thought it was worth a try).

i got this error due to something with my usb port. i had my cable modem plugged in to it. as soon as i switched the connection to a nic card, the error went away.
