Hi,
This is my first time posting here - I hope someone can help me. I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's going on with my machine. I have Win XP Pro installed on a SY-K7VEM Pro motherboard, running an Athlon XP 1.7GHz processor.
Ever since I tried to install (actually downgrade) to an older Palm handheld (the VIIx unit), I'm having IRQ conflicts and I am unable to view the Device Manager screen. I can only view the Device Manager in Safe Mode. Here's what I've tried so far, to no avail:
- Switching the BIOS option for PnP OS on and off
- Setting the modem IRQ to another (unused) value
- Using System Restore to return to previous state (where I had just uninstalled my previous Palm Software)
- Running Windows using the "Last Good Configuration" option
- Uninstalling all conflicting devices via the Device Manager in Safe Modevarious combinations of the above
I still cannot get my Palm Pilot to synch, nor can I now use my modem (so I'm writing from my school's computer lab).
Short of reinstalling my OS (which I'd really like to avoid - it was such a pain to install and download a week's worth of Windows updates) - I'm at a loss of what to do. There's definitely some conflict causing my modem & Palm not to work.
One more thing - I uninstalled my previous Palm software (for Tungsten C), and installed the software for the VIIx. During installation, I was asked which COM port I wanted to use - I chose COM2. This is where the problem began; however, I have since uninstalled the VIIx software and uninstalled both the COM1 and COM2 assignments (via the Safe Mode Device Manager).
After restarting, here's what I have on the computer:

boot all the way to the c: drive listing with the xp install disk.
on that page hit 'r' for repair.
that repair will remove and reinstall the system files and registry, without losing the programs/data on the drive

Actually, I forgot to mention that I've already tried this solution as well. I still cannot see the device manager after choosing the "R" option for repair from the XP boot CD.
Any other ideas? Help - I'm stuck!!! Thanks...
