I have Norton Antivirus 2003 and it picked up that I have this IRC trojan "Explored.exe". Apparently it appeared after I downloaded some anti-spyware program if you can believe it.
I bought Anti-trojan to get rid of it but it's still hanging on. I turned off system restore and deleted it from the registry. I also Ran Norton which can't delete it, only quarantine it. I can't send it to them either for review because I get an error message everytime I try to.
I did get the NPC shutdown error message but that was a week ago, so when I got it again last night I didn't think anything of it. (I know how to fix it) And just kept restarting the computer and trying to connect to the web to contact symantec for help.
I finally gave up and decided to do a system recovery and let the computer reinstall all of the original application data.
So it did and when I restarted I got a black screen with the Windows logo and white letters that said
Please wait...So I did--for an hour and the screen never moved.
Is the worm messing with the system recovery? Am I not going to be able to get past that screen to even install the patch and fix the worm?
How screwed am I?
