iPod not detected correctly

Hello, I've been trying to put songs on my iPod with my pc. But when I connect it, there is this error message that pops out:
The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software.
And of course, I uninstalled iTunes and then reinstalled it multiple times, but the problem persists. does anyone know what addon i can download or something to repair this? Thanks, Fred

Oh and also, when I plug in my iPod, a window pops out, the one you would get if you go to My Computer and double click on your ipod device (while your ipod is connected of course). does anyone know how to not have this window pop out every time, just my itunes opening and with my ipod in the left pannel. theres probably a simple way but i cant find out how...
by the way, the i have itunes 7.7 and the program works fine, just has this problem of detecting the ipod...

well one session is ok, but the other session of my computer still has the problem and i cant solve it, not the same way as i solved the other one...
but for my ipod, i still cant add songs on it...
