I have 2 PCs networked via a crossover cable (both running XP Pro) - file and printer sharing is OK but ICS is not working. On receiving the "This page cannot be displayed" on the client PC when trying to access the internet, I followed the advice to go to the command prompt on the client and do the ipcong release then renew action. I then received a message saying "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissable for this operation" What do I do now?

sandra, i would first check if you have any conflicts with your network card, it seems a little flaky to me.. if there isn't try removing it thru device manager and reinstall the drivers for it. or try physically removing the card from a slot and install into another. if it still doesn't work, try a difference nic it may be due to a bad nic. if all else fails, do a reinstall of windows.
