Hi,
Due to a blue screen error with no resolution I was forced to re-install Windows the other day. Since re-installing I am unable to get wny kind of network connection.
When I double click the network connection it says "status - connected"
"duration - 09.35 and adds a second every second)"
"activity - packets sent 0 received 0"When I type IPCONFIG I receive the following:
Windows IP Configuration
And nothing else - just a blank line or two!
I have tried/checked the following in order to rectify/diagnose the problem:
I have pinged 127.0.0.1 with no problems.
I have checked that the Network Adapter is enabled and working.
I have checked the cabling.
I checked the activity light next to the ehternet cable - it is lit (solid green)
I tried repair and get the message "Could not complete because the following action could not be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Could not proceed" I checked the TCP/IP connection properties - they were all checked as automatic. So I tried changing them to the settings the machine had before re-installation - no help.I have run out of options - can anyone help/suggest anything I can try?
Thanks
Hutchie

I worked it out! When I re-installed XP the drivers for the Network Controller etc. needed installing/updating... when I checked the network connection it was too early in the morning and I wasn't thinking! I was checking the 1394 Firewire connection...
Anyway I dug out the Dell Installation disk and installed the drivers and I am back up and working again! I feel a touch stupid!
Thanks for the help
hutchie
