I'm on a wireless home network. I have various computers conected, and they all work fine, they can access each other. The problem is that my windows XP computer is "invisible", so i can't "see" it when accesing the workgroup, even if I can acces it by typing the name on the addres bar.
Even when my laptop is disconnected, if I try to acces the workgroup I am registered on, i can't see my laptop...Somewhere I saw this was a problem for the XP professional computers, and that there was a fix for it, but I can't find anything...
"Everithing is possible, except that that isn't."

Celarent: just a few ideas;

also some folks are finding their computers are not connecting as expected because the wireless access point being used by the computer belongs to someone else nearby.
to tell exactly which access point you’re connected to, go into the Network Connections area of Control Panel, right-click on your wireless connection, and select Properties.
under the General tab, at the bottom of the window, check the Show Icon In Notification Area When Connected Option.
now a little twin-monitor icon will show up in your system tray.
when you run your mouse over it, you should see the name of the active access point.let us know how you fixed it...

Thanks for answerint, but the connection isn't the problem...
My laptop is connected to the network, it can access internet, even play and acces the files of the other PCs. These computers can even access my files if they tipe my laptop's name in the address bar. The problem relies in that my computer isn't listed on the workgroup. The connection isn't a problem."Everithing is possible, except that that isn't."

Celarent: let's see if i can get with the program here...some things to check:
1. first verify your laptop has been configured as a member of a Workgroup (peer-to-peer networking).
2. you need to logon to the Windows Logon prompt during startup to view peer machines in My Network Places or Network Neighborhood.
3. map the network drives on all computers.
4. verify you are running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (Local Area Connection - Properties),
5. verify you are running NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP - Properties - Advanced - WINS).
6. click Start, Run, type: services.msc
and ensure the following services are running and set to Automatic;
Computer Browser
Server
Workstation7. verify that a firewall is not causing your problem.
disable Norton Internet Security firewall on the laptop.8. right-click the My Network Places icon, select Properties, then right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties.
make sure none of computers are set up to use a "Windows NT Domain" or a "Business Domain."
all of the computers should have the same name for "Workgroup."
all computers should have the same protocol, clients, and services installed (e.g. TCP/IP, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and Client for Microsoft Networks).
note that these protocols have slightly different names in different versions of Windows.
if you're using Internet Connection Sharing, the NetBEUI protocol should not be used; otherwise, you may need NetBEUI in order to access other computers on your network.make sure that any computers don't have the same computer name.
some computer names supported by Windows 2000 and Windows XP are not compatible with Windows 9x/Me, such as names with spaces. simplify all your computer names and try again.log into Windows 98 with the same username and password as for Windows XP .
let us know what worked for you...

i have the same problem as celarent has!!
i done with your chechklist, but all was configured correctly! :(i can add, that with me, the problem came, when i first used my notebook (that is normally a member of a workgroup of my home-network) at the company, where a domain is used! of course, my laptop wasn't set up for the domain and i just used the proxy for surfing the net, but from that time on, the workgroup-browsing doesn't work correctly!
(of course, as your checklist says, i've checked that the notebook is set up for being a member of a workgroup and not of a domain)

Celarent and The Wulfman: try these troubleshooters from Microsoft at:

let us know what worked for you...

Those methods didn't worked... And the steps you mentioned aim at the functioning of a network. The network runs perfect, it's just my computer icon the one that's missing. Is this really a bug? Is there a fix?

Celarent and TheWulfman: thanks for hanging in folks...found another checklist for you which will hopefully have a fix for you at;
