As others have posted, my password will not "stick" in the dial-up area of XP. It seems to have created it's own.
I did look at other posts on the subject and see that it should be correctable via a registry reset but I have tried to no avail.
First try was booting in via SAFE MODE and log-on as ADMIN. Tried the routine with the HKEY_CURRENT_USER, trying to delete change items in the Protected Storage System Provider key. Problem is that I do not SEE the Protected Storage System Provider when logged on as ADMIN in Safe Mode. So, no help there.
IF I run regedit logged on as a regular user I do see the proper key but when I get to the step of deleting the Protected Storage System Provider key, XP says I can't do that.
Any other ideas out there to correct this annoyance of having to re-type the correct password everytime I try to connect to the net?

This might seem strange, but my XP did the same. You are right about the password not "sticking". I had the same problem.
It seemed that it would stay until someone else would log on (a different user). At that point theirs would work, but mine would not any longer.
What I ultimately did that worked was this.
Delete the dialup. Make a new one.
Dial each person up from their own log-in, adding the paasword at that time, then go back one more time and check connect automatically. Don't ask me why it works now, but it does.
Also, just so you know......no matter how many letters your password is, windows fills up the space with dots to help make it harder for someone to your password. Your real password (supposedly) is buried within.
