Evening chaps,

Just restarted my computer after installing Microsoft's lates updates to XP after reading about the critical update that was issued the ther day. (KB941202,KB939653,KB933729 KB943460)

Apon re-starting, the system POSTed fine but before the Windows splash screen, i got the following message:-

INVALID BOOT,INI file... Booting C:\WINDOWS.

Checked msconfig and the boot.ini tab was missing.

Went into Control Panel->System->Advanced->Start-up & Recovery Settings. There was no boot.ini file there either.

Had to manually create the boot.ini file following response #5 of the following http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/th...
(Google is my friend)

(changed timeout to 0)

Just wondered if anybody else had the same problems after installing the updates as this is the only setting I changed. Computer is free of virus/spyware etc.

Regards
D

On a side note .... you have almost the same machine spec as I do with the exception of the CPU -- I have an E4300; currently overclocked to 3.06GHz.

Further!

What actually happended was. I loaded a new boot.ini file as above, posted the message on C.net and THEN went back into the boot.ini file to change the timeout to zero. Upon restarting, Windows XP could not detect the hal.dll.....You know for years I ran an unofficial XP Pro and did not update anything ever. Is this my punishment for going legit!?!?!?!

PS - Sabretooth, you are a man of good taste. Plus, you recomended this rig to me a while ago when i posted regarding building my new rig. Good to know the 965P-DS3 will overclock. I will have to look into doing that.
