Comment: when i boot my pc, i'm getting invalid boot.ini then i am getting error message state states:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. then when I try to repair it, it tells me access denied. so when I use chkdsk /p /r, i am told that 25% was completed, but that the volume found one or more unrecoverable problems. also i was thinking about reformatting as a last resort (help me I really don't want to) and saw that my partition now shows c: partition1 [unknown]38154 mb(38154 mb free); is there no way to recover my windows directory? i think that's the key here (operative word being "think", really don't want to reformat. what gives? any suggestions?

Reply: The boot loader file boot.ini file may be corrupted. First run the boot.ini file by typing boot.ini in run taking from start menu. check any error in boot.ini file.
