I get this message when trying to boot up "invalid boot.ini file booting from C:\Windows". I have a Dell notebook with Windows XP. I does not fully boot and just keeps repeating this cycle. Any ideas?

Try F8 first. If it takes you to a boot menu, choose last known good config.

On my Dell desktop, boot.ini is in the C:\boot_emt directory & there is a backup boot.ini.backup in C:\windows\pss
If you can boot to a command prompt using F8, you can cd to c:\windows\pss & run copy boot.ini.backup c\boot_emt Then run rename boot.ini.backup boot.ini
If that can't be done, boot with a boot disk that has a copy of boot.ini on it & copy that to c:\boot_emt
