a workstation on our novell network, that previously worked perfectly can no longer connect to the internet, but it can access the internal company network without issue, I have done everything I can think of, but nothing...everything appears to be correct, but no internet.

Is the browser that is on the workstation loaded from the novell server or is it installed locally?

Are you using a proxy server?

Turn it off, wait a while, turn it back on again.

it is installed locally, we don't use a proxy server.

I tried turning it off, waiting, and then restart, still nothing...

when I run network diagnostics everything passes except DNSServerSearchOrder it fails, the workstation cannot ping the DNS servers, they are the same DNS servers used by every other workstation and they all work just fine.

Have you had a peek at the firewall settings

Turn it off, wait a while, turn it back on again.

so you can ping the gateway as well??
if you can't ping DNS then that is why you can't surf, DNS changes 'www.yahoo.com' to IP address so without that you wont get anywhere...if you can't ping the gateway then you have no route to the DNS server...

also one other quick thing know that i think about it, your Winsocks reg entries could be messed up, go to another machine and download WinSockFix and run it on the machine that wont surf, it will rebuild your TCP/IP stacks, that could very well fix your issue

I can ping the internal gateway, and the external IP establish through NAT, but I cannot ping any external IPs, with or with resolving to the DNS server...

for example

I can't ping www.yahoo.com nor can I ping the actual IP adress for yahoo.

I tried to run winsockxpfix on the machine and it didn't fix a thing...I am at a total loss...why can I connect to the internal network and not the internet...all other workstations are configured the same way...

if you go to your command prompt and type in ipconfig /all are you picking up the DNS from the DHCP server??? or are you setting in the ips and dns statically

ok remove the static DNS and see if the DHCP server hands out the DNS for you, when you remove the DNS from the properties, after you finish go to your command prompt, type in ipconfig /release press enter wait for it to release then type ipconfig /renew and press enter and then ping yahoo.com

re-installing the client software didn't help...i'll check out the novell boards...one thing that is odd is that after a ipconfig /all it says that my lease expires december 31 1969...so that is odd.
