I am running windows xp on this desktop computer. It is a HP Pavillion a705w. Last night my husband unplugged the computer without properly shutting it down without my knowledge. I went to start it up today and it won't boot up. There is a green light by the power supply on the back where it plugs in to the computer, and all that does is blink rapidly and makes a clicking noise. The power button blinks blue but it won't start up. I have pictures on this computer that haven't been backed up yet and I don't care if it's ruined it's an older computer but i just want to try to get it turned on one more time to get the pictures off of it. Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like it might be the power supply that's the issue.....but it's very hard to tell without some hands-on tests. Your best bet will likely be to take it in to a reputable shop to have a professional diagnose the issue for you.
Worst comes to worst, you could also get them to back up the data on that hard drive while it's there. But I suspect that won't be necessary as it's likely something that can be fixed fairly easily.
However, if it is something serious, like a blown motherboard, they would be able to do a backup for you I'm quite sure.

Thanks Curt. I called and they think it is the power supply also. They are coming out later today to look/fix it. Thanks so much!!!
