Comment:

I purchased a Sony DVD player for my Athlon 64 2.1 ghz computer (home build) that had bundled with it Intervideo home theater. I like the program but even though I deselected all the check boxes to associate files, it did it anyway. I went back and in control panel reset the associations. Most things work fine but I have a problem I'm not sure how to correct. I can go to MSNBC and watch any video on it with no problem. I do have Windows Media Player set as my default media player. When I go to CNN or FOX News, the video will not load. I am running Zone Alarm Pro and have had no problem assessing these sites in the past. Now they won't work. I've tried going back before the problem with system restore but have not been able to correct the problem. Once, I turned off Zone Alarm and FOX video worked. I hope their is someone out there who has had a similar problem and can help. Thanks in advance.

Did all this started after you download & applied Windows Update (from April 11 onward)?

Xp User,

I've tried to keep all Windows Updates current so I am sure that if there was an Update at that time I had downloaded it.

I've really not had troubles until just recently.

I had troubles downloading streaming video from CinemaNow.

A tech from their suggested I uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Player 10. I can't seem to find in Control Panels an "uninstall" for WMP.

Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.

The reason I asked is because the April 11 Windows Update turned out to have wreaked many users machines. M$ is scheduled to release another patch to fix it this coming Tuesday.

It is really weird. I can turn off Zone Alarm and Fox Video works but CNN Video doesn't work. Could that be a part of the problem M$ created. I have had ZA for a couple of years and never had this problem.

Create another user profile (admin rights) and try those sites again from the newly created user login.

I'm not sure how to do that. Not sure what steps to take. Could you step me through it?

Also, I was going to write that in IE CNN Video does not work. In Firefox it does. Sometimes Fox works in IE but doesn't work in Firefox. This is about to blow my mind.

If creating a new user profile would help, I sure would appreciate your help.

Open the User Accounts tool, go to the Control Panel from the Start menu, and then double click User Accounts.

To Create a New User Account

1. Click Create a new account in the Pick a task list box.

2. Type the name that you want to use for the account, and then click Next.

3. Select the desired account type, and then click Create Account.

To Make Changes to an Account

1. Click Change an account in the Pick a task list box.

2. Click the account that you want to change.

3. Select the item that you would like to change:

• Click Change the name to change the name that appears on the Welcome screen for the account.

• Click Change the picture to change the picture that is used to represent the user account. You can use any image file on the computer for the user's picture.

• Click Change the account type to change the account type to increase or decrease the user's rights on the computer.

• Click Create/change the password to create or change the password for the user and create or change the password hint.

Tried creating a new user account. No go. Same problem.

I've also found that CNN will work in Firefox. Fox News won't work in Firefox.

MSNBC works in IE but won't work in Firefox.

When I run IE having shut down Zone Alarm Fox News works.

I'm beyond myself. Thanks for any further suggestions. I appreciate all thoughts.

Try Opera browser and see if that helps in further isolating the issue. If not try a codec fix.

What will the codec do to my Media Player 10. I tried to download it. It says I don't have administrative rights. My comnputer is set up with me as the administrator and no other account. Not sure why it is not working.

Thanks for more insight.
