Hi All... I use a U S Robotics message extwernal modem to connect to the Internet. tghis modem is recognized by Windows XP automatically. the problem is that it connects with about half or less of my usual Internet speed. any comments plz

So at one point you connected at 54K and now you only get 23.6K? Any new residencial construction in the area?
It is common for the phone company when pressed with more demand then copper lines to multiplex the signals. This means they run multliple phone connections down a single pair. This cuts modem connections in half. The phone company only supports voice grade not data grade according to the phone companies I have dealt with.
This is what finally forced me to cable internet and there is no going back for me now.
