internet sends packets but wont receive

June 8, 2010 at 04:24:24
Specs: Windows XP
I have reformatted and reinstalled windows XP
SP3 that I had before and running well. I have
downloaded the latest motherboard drivers and
installed. The internet connection tells me I am
connected at 100 mbs and sends packets but
will not receive any. The computer is one of
hard wired, (all the other PCs are the same
make and model) in a network and has an IP
address assigned to it, and the is correct. It
was working under this same configuration but
was full of viruses and rubbish so I did a clean
install of XP and all progs. I have tried with the
firewall on and off, virus protection on and off to
no avail.

I know my way around a computer but I can
figure this one out.

I have lost the original motherboard driver disk.

I will be grateful for any suggestions anyone

NOTE> I did a clone (Norton Ghost) first from
another PC with the same result.

Check for network related drivers and troubleshoot those.
Try to ping for other computers and websites whether you are getting reply or not? Based on that we can decide whether sending or not.

I have downloaded the latest drivers (motherboard including Lan)
as I said earlier. Any address I have pinged I get no reply.

Hi there,

Try to ping your ip. if you got success then your system TCP/IP stack is configured properly. If you are unsuccessful then you may need to re-install the drivers or replace the LAN card as last option.

Best of luck
